Hazel A. Ray, daughter of the late Ernest Cox & Faye Rose Chumbley was born November 16, 1924 at Harrodsburg, KY and departed this life April 3, 2007 at Somerset, KY having attained the age of 82 years.
Hazel was a graduate of Centre College in Danville, KY. She was a retired school teacher having taught school in the Lincoln Co. School System, Stanford, KY; Oolitic, Indiana; Perryville, KY and Highland Elementary. She taught Home Economics and Remedial Reading. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Lincoln County, KY where she helped her late husband who served as pastor from 1958 - 1985. In addition to her church work, Hazel loved making crafts of various types. She was a kind, gentle lady who faught with dignity toward a lengthy battle with the disease of Alzheimers before her Lord called her home to Heaven.
She was united in marriage to the Rev. William Elmore Ray, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky Ashley and her husband, Gerald of Stanford, KY; Nancy Keeling of Louisville, KY; a son, William Jeffrey Ray Columbia of Cold Springs, KY; four grandchildren, Stephanie Inderbitzin and her husband, Matt of Toledo, Ohio, Jonathan Ashley and his wife, Tami of Toledo, Ohio; Casey Keeling of Louisville, KY and Kelley Keeling of Lexington, KY; two great-grandchildren, Madysen Ashley and Dawson Keeling and a sister-in-law, Earline Rivers of Memphis, TN.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Fairview Baptist Church, Stanford, KY, with Bro. Johnny Baker officiating.
Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Stanford, KY.
Visitation will be at the Fairview Baptist Church in Stanford, KY after 6 p.m. Thursday evening and after 12 Noon on Friday until after the funeral service.
The family request donations to be given to the Gideons Memorial Bible Plan or Fairview Cemetery Fund.
