Officer Elijah Jay Rodgers

Officer Elijah Jay Rodgers, 31, of the Lauderhill Police Department suddenly passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011. He was born on October 7, 1979, son of Frank Rodgers and the late Penny Rodgers. Officer Rodgers was an exceptional police officer and wore the badge and uniform with honor and integrity. Officer Rodgers had a tremendous life of service, serving in the Army National Guard for six years, with one tour in Iraq. He then went on to work with the Broward Sheriff's Office for five years as a Detention Deputy and subsequently came to the Lauderhill Police Department. He spent his entire life serving and protecting our rights, freedom and safety. Eli grew up in Pulaski County, Kentucky, attended Woodstock Elementary and graduated from Pulaski High School with his wife Angela. Officer Rodgers is survived by his wife, Angela Rodgers; father, Frank Rodgers; grandmother, Maxine Lovins; sister, Jennifer Smith; brother, Theo Rodgers, uncle Ricky Lovins and many more family members and numerous close friends. He was an adored son, devoted husband, loving uncle and a great friend to all that knew him. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Braswell of the Lauderhill Police Department and Pastor Philip Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38. Visitation will be after 12 Noon Thursday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
