Hubert Smith

December 6, 1925 — March 13, 2011

Hubert Smith, 85, of the Bobtown community, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on December 6, 1925, son of the late Morris F. and Vina Ellen Smiley Smith. He worked for General Motors in Indiana and Ohio, Vaught Bros. and retired from KY Frame. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Union Church of Christ. He loved going to church, working in his yard, flowers and garden. He always enjoyed working on cars, lawn mowers or anything he could do with his hands. He loved the outdoors, but most of all he loved his family getting together eating or sitting and talking about his old cars, friends and what a good life he had. He never met a stranger and loved everyone. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Laura Betty Thurman Smith, whom he married on August 17, 1953, one son, Gene & (Tammy) Smith, one daughter, Gail Smith Fix and a very special friend, Ralph Robinson, all of Bobtown. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Misty & (Morgan) Wilson of Eubank, Amanda Smith of Science Hill, A.J. Smith of Eubank and Michael & (Autumn) Fix of Columbia, SC, four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Krystin Wilson and Cameron and Savannah Fix, his little dog, Spanky, one brother, Roy & (Mary) Smith, one sister, Ruey Crouch, both of Bobtown, many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and many friends whom he treasured deeply. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wilmer F. Smith and one sister, Zula Taylor Coe. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
