James Tackette, 93, of Eubank, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Christian Care Center of Lancaster, KY. He was a member of Pilot Baptist Church of Eubank, Kentucky.
He was born in Clear Fork, Kentucky on April 9, 1918, son of the late B. F. and Laura Ellen Tyler Tackette. Mr. Tackette retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier; he delivered mail all throughout the Eubank area. He was an Army Veteran serving in WWII. He fought in the South Pacific and in the Hawaiian Islands. He was on a ship, one day out at sea when the bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred and he arrived to the aftermath. He was a member of the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1938. He enlisted in U.S. Army in 1941, and left the army in 1945 with an Honorable discharge. He received the Good Conduct Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Award, American Defense Service Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbons with two bronze stars. Mr. Tackette was a past master of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge #328, Waynesburg, Kentucky. He contributed his gift of woodworking skills and knowledge throughout his membership. Mr. Tackette's love of woodworking and clock making has enriched the lives of many family and friends, he will be greatly missed. Mr. Tackette is survived by two sons, Harold "Dean" & (Jan) Tackette of Trinity Center, CA, Kenny & (Betty) Tackett of Eubank, one daughter Connie & (Linton) Tackette Cress of Eubank, five grandchildren, Louanne Cress & (Joe) Heist, Jamie & (Angie) Cress, Trina Tackett Turner & (fiancé Paul Miller), Nicole Tackett & (Mike) Singleton and Kirsten Tackette & (Chris) Heller, eight great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Morgan and Levi Heist, Jessica Cress, Jonathan and Kayla Turner, Emily and Abbigayle Singleton and Jase Heller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Caudill Tackette, who passed away in 2003, his parents, three brothers, Roy B. Tackette, Arthur "Jasper" Tackette and Junior Tackette, one sister, Vivian Tackette Caudill Hampton and one great-grandchild "Baby Singleton".
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Vola Brown & Bro. Wayne Stephens officiating.
A Masonic Service will be held by Masonic Lodge #328.
Burial will be in Pilot Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
