Agnes Butte Andis

Agnes Butte Andis, 92, of Science Hill, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at her residence, where she was also born on April 4, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Alex A. and Lou Peck Butte. Agnes was a 1937 graduate of Science Hill High School. She was united in marriage to the late James C. Andis on November 30, 1941, in Jamestown, KY. Agnes was a long time employee of Roses Department Store, where she retired. She was a charter member of the Science Hill Garden Club, where she played an active role for more than 70 years. She was a member of Science Hill Church of the Nazarene and attended the Science Hill Christian Church. Agnes is survived by two children, David J. & (Catherine) Andis and Sarah Lou & (Paul) Burton, two granddaughters, April D. Andis and Melissa J. & (William) Girdler and one great-granddaughter, Eva Virginia Andis Girdler. She also leaves behind four dedicated caregivers, Linda Cook, Dollie Wesley, Tracy Neikirk and Helen Koti. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Andis, who died on July 19, 1998, her parents and her sister, Virginia Butte Jasper. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Don Phelps and Bro. Charles Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Science Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Science Hill Garden Club or Hospice of Lake Cumberland. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
