Lavone Poynter

Lavone Whitis Poynter, 80, of Eubank, Kentucky, gently passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Somerset Nursing & Rehab. She was born in Eubank, Kentucky on February 22, 1931, daughter of the late Menifee and Lillie Mae Harper Whitis. She was a farmer, homemaker and a devoted and loving mother to her children. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Marion & (Donna) Poynter, Lee Poynter and Dale & (Gidget) Poynter, all of Eubank, four daughters, Shirley & (Junior) Roberts of Eubank, Hazel & (Wendell) Goff of Williamsburg, KY, Kathy Sue Lovely and Kay Poynter, both of Eubank, four brothers, Everett Lee Whitis of Nancy, Ellis Whitis of Stanford, Wayne Whitis of Eubank and Jr. "Junie" Alvin Whitis of Harrodsburg, KY, four sisters, Jessie Poynter of Harrodsburg, KY, Evelene Phelps of Danville, KY, JoAnn New of Burnside and Betty Lou Weatherford of Shopville, thirteen grandchildren, three special grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, extended family and friends at Somerset Nursing & Rehab and Hospice of Lake Cumberland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Bruce Poynter, who died on June 8, 2003, her parents, four brothers, Raymond Fee Whitis, Audie Whitis, Emmitt Whitis and Bruce Whitis and one sister, Gertrude "Gertie" Sims. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Delmer Whitter officiating. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
