Melvin Ray Habermehl, 73, of Eubank, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his residence.
He was born in Augusta, Kentucky on February 26, 1938, son of the late William Stanley and Elizabeth Booth Habermehl. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 6 years and the U.S. Air Force after 14 years. He was a member of Eubank Baptist Church, VFW Post 5358 in Eubank and loved to read his Bible daily.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Rutherford Habermehl of Eubank, one son, Stanley & (Frances) Habermehl of Plainfield, IN, one daughter, Jewell & (Barry) Lukat of Science Hill, one brother, Bill & (Mary Sue) Habermehl of Augusta, KY, one sister, Eva Dean of Aberdeen, OH, one special granddaughter, Heather Habermehl, his special doggie, "Wolfie" and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, Ronnie and David Habermehl and one sister, Rosemary Denton.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 12, 2011 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Sutton officiating.
Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5 PM Sunday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
