Lloyd J. "Jim" Lester, 80, of Burnside, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at his residence.
He was born in Science Hill, Kentucky on May 5, 1931, son of the late Kenneth and Lou Verna Ratliff Lester. He was an aviation maintenance instructor at Somerset Community College and a member of Science Hill Christian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Naval Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Sturdivant Lester, whom he married on March 8, 1973, one son, John Lester of Burnside, two daughters, Kim Wright of Fairbanks, AK and Connie Ladner of Gulfport, MS, one brother, Ulysses Lester of Florida, one sister, Elizabeth Voris of Palos Verdes, CA, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hershel Lester, Vestal Lester and Wayne Lester and one sister, Berdina Steberle.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Stacey officiating.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
