Nancy Ethel Thompson Mitchell, 85, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, Indiana.
She was born in Kentucky on January 18, 1927 to John Jackson and Gracie Kathern Carter Thompson. Nancy was married for 52 years to Brinkley Mitchell, whom she married on October 22, 1945 in Somerset and who passed away on May 20, 1997. Nancy loved spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren, listening to bluegrass music, traveling and camping.
She was the mother of four children; Gary & (Delores) of Kuwait, IN, Gilda & (Millard) of Tipton, IN, Glenda & (Joe) of New Castle, IN and Jeff of Kempton, IN. Other survivors include her 9 grandchildren Keitha & (Reuben) Aguayo, Diana & (Eric) Bowman, Lisa & (Tom) Harvey, Amy Mitchell, Scott & (Tammy) Roberts, Debbie & (Nathan) Cochran, Eddie & (Teresa) Roberts, Deidre Shumake, Joe & (Carey) Gaw, 18 great-grandchildren and a brother, John Jr. & (Gladys) Thompson.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Brinkley, a son Jeff, a son-in-law, Millard, four sisters; Martha Thompson, Bessie Mullins, Ruby Gaddis, Garnetta Thompson and three brothers, Arthur, Reuben, and Cecil Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton, IN with Pastor Mark Ward officiating. Visitation will take place two hours prior services at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held in Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg, Kentucky on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 12 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
