Dr. Bob Hoots, 80, of Columbia, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Bob was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on May 29, 1932, son of the late Homer and Myrtle Wolfe Hoots. He was saved at the age of 8, began preaching at 13 and held his first revival at 15. He graduated from college and pastored his first church at 19. He attended Nazarene Theological Seminary and received his doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene College. He held over 2500 revivals and camp meetings. He has been called many things: "Mr. Campmeeting", "The Modern Day Uncle Bud Robinson" and "The Miracle Man". He is considered the most beloved evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Science Hill Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Gibson Hoots, son, Mark Hoots, both of Columbia, three daughters, Lydia Sturdivant of Bowling Green, KY, Miriam Hoots of Columbia, KY and Megan Grubbs of Virginia, nine grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Jonathon, Lucas, Elizabeth, Jake, Jordan, Rebekah and Hannah, six great-grandchildren, James, John, Peter, Moriah, Ezekial and Finley, one brother, Gene Hoots of Columbia, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and a host of great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ralph Hoots and one sister, Shirley Frank.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday, October 15, 2012 at Science Hill Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Gene Wells officiating.
Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery in Clinton County, KY.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday at Science Hill Church of the Nazarene.
