Laverne Marie Shell, 93, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab in Somerset, KY. A former resident of Eubank, Pulaski County, Kentucky, she made her home with her son Bill in Lexington for several years. She had been a resident of Cumberland Nursing and Rehab for two weeks

Laverne was born at Eubank on December 24, 1918, a daughter of the late Everett and Clauda Herrin Estes. She became Mrs. Henry Shell on July 29, 1939, and one son blessed their marriage.
Mrs. Shell attended the former Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College and taught at Pulaski and Lincoln County schools for three years. Laverne began a successful 46 year-long banking career in 1942 in Eubank at First State Bank, now Cumberland Security Bank. During her career she held various positions, retiring in 1980 as cashier and then returning as a part time teller in 1985.
In 1930 Laverne became a member of Eubank Baptist Church where attending services was the highlight of her life. On her 90th birthday she was honored by the membership for being the oldest member of the church. Laverne was also treasurer of the Eubank Homemakers' Club for several years.
Survivors include Bill Shell and his wife Darla; Chuck Shell, his wife Jamie, and daughter Briana; and Joey Shell and daughters Amanda and Allison all of Lexington, Kentucky.
Preceding Mrs. Shell in death were husband Henry Shell, who died on September 30, 1983 and her sister, Mrs. Lavena Mae Diamond, who died on June 21, 1987.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Eubank Cemetery with her pastor, Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating. Mrs. Shell's son Bill is receiving treatment for leukemia at Markey Cancer Center in Lexington and will be unable to attend.
At the request of Mrs. Shell expressions of sympathy may be made to Eubank Baptist Church.
