Claude M. Combs, 84, of US 62 & 68 in Ripley, Ohio, formerly of Somerset, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Ohio Valley Manor.
He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on April 21, 1923, son of the late Marion and Martha Combs. He was a welder for 37 years with the Kodak Mining Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of Troup A 38th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. His battle campaigns included Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Gayheart Combs, whom he married on March 12, 1943. They called Hazard their home until they retired to Somerset in 1987. The enjoyed life together there until their move to Ripley, Ohio in September of 2007.
He is also survived by one son, Dan L. & (Kathy) Combs of West Union, OH, one grandson, Eric K. & (Jane) Combs of Cincinnati, OH, one granddaughter, Mindy & (Josh) Basford of Cincinnati, OH, three great-grandchildren, Aidan Daniel, Natalie Ann and Bella Claire and one sister, Versie Colwell of Campbellsville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Sexton officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
