Hester Mae Wesley Bales, 80, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013.
She was born in Science Hill, Kentucky on December 10, 1932, daughter of the late William Ray and Zelma Marie Roberts Wesley. She was the former owner of the Chili Bowl restaurant in Elmwood for 23 years and worked as a cook at the Bridgehouse restaurant in Reading for over 30 years. She started her cooking career as a WAC in the Army during the Korean War.
Hester enjoyed watching college basketball, football and golf. She enjoyed trips to the casinos, traveling, bowling and raised whippet dogs for a period of time. She spent a few years after retirement in Florida and was always ready for a road trip.
She is survived by one daughter, Kim Hope Lay McMahon, her only sister, Margaret E. Wesley, four grandchildren, Michael, Don-Nicole, Stefani and Daniel, three great-grandchildren, her aunts, Thelma Ferrell, Minnie Mullins, Helen Rogers, and Mildred Hair Walden, nephew, Bill Wesley, and multiple great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol Rae Lay and her brother, Edgar Thomas Wesley.
She was "Granny" to so many people and will be terribly missed by all. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, hard work, good cooking and devotion to her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 1 PM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
Entombment will be in Science Hill Cemetery at a later date.
