Gene C. Harmon

Gene C. Harmon, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born in Somerset, Kentucky, June 29, 1940, to Halsey Harmon and Oda Marie (Cassada) Harmon. Gene was a retired Army Drill Sergeant, dedicating his service to the Armed Forces from 1957 to 1977, during which time he received many honors including the Bronze Star and the distinguished honor of a Purple Heart, for injuries sustained in the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Millie (Haynes) Harmon, who was by his side every day for support and care during the struggles with his illness. He is survived by a daughter, Samantha Brune of McEwen, Tennessee, a sister, Alicedeen Moreland of Somerset, Kentucky, ten stepchildren: Kirby Ramsey, Beverly Bolin, Charles Ramsey, Carolyn "Susie" Jasper, Robert Ramsey, Boyce Ramsey, Angela Brock and Steve Ramsey, all of Somerset, Kentucky and Bill Ramsey of Franklin, Kentucky and Lisa Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky. Gene was also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and dear friends. Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, a brother, William "Bill" Harmon, a sister, Louise, a daughter, Mona Harmon and a son-in-law, Levi Jasper. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, April 9, 2012 at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, Kentucky. Visitation will begin 11 a.m. on today for friends at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be officiated by Bro. Murrell Crockett of Somerset, Kentucky. Burial will be held at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset, Kentucky, following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), P.O.
