Marvin Lou Roy, 80, Beech Grove Rd., Science Hill, the son of the late Lou Madison and Josephine (Godby) Roy, was born on Oct. 30, 1927 in Science Hill, KY and departed this life on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home. He was a retired foreman of the Kingsford Charcoal Co., a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran , having served in Japan at the ending of WWII and a member of the Buncombe Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Bethlehem Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Science Hill. He was also a youth director at the First Baptist Church for several years. He served as chaplin for the Science Hill D.A.V. He is survived by his children, Kim Roy of Lexington; Kathy &(Roger) Hines of Science Hill; Katie & (James) Johnson of Somerset; four grandchildren, Tammie & ( Bryan) Stringer, Pamela & ( John) Walden, Jayme Dykes & (his fiancee', Ashley Barron, and Trevor Roy; three great-grandchildren, Blake, Braeden and Bailey Stringer; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle (Godbey) Roy , whom he married on Nov. 10, 1948 and who died in July 14, 2005; a brother, Lloyd Roy, four sisters, Cora Dotson, Wilma Godsey, Emma Godsey and Jean Taylor. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, April 4, 2008 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, with Bros. Pat Lawson, Thurston Mounce and Wendell Butte officiating. Burial will be in the Science Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 pm Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38. The family request expressions of sympathy to the Activity Program for patients of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home or the Buncombe Baptist Church. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
