Fern E. Godbey, 71, of Burnside, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at home in Danville, Kentucky. She was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on November 24, 1941, daughter of the late John Mac and Alice Buchanan Chappell. She did many jobs, but her calling was that of a mother. She attended Mt. Union Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Ricky L. Godbey & (Marc Hopkins) of Oklahoma City, OK and Timothy R. Godbey of Whitley City, KY, one daughter, Angela M. & (James) Bender of Danville, KY, seven grandchildren, Jonathan Keith of Welston, OH, Timothy R. Godbey Jr. of Madison, WV, Haleigh Blackburn of Williamson, WV, Aaron M. Godbey of Clarksville, TN, Joshua S. Blackburn of Williamson, WV, Hannah R. Godbey of Clarksville, TN and Caitlyn P. Godbey of Clarksville, TN, one great-grandchild, Hannah Grace Johnson of South Point, OH, one brother, Clarence Buddy Chappell of Barbourville, KY, two sisters, Mary Lou Sowders and Catherine Dishon, both of Stanford, KY, many people that she treated as her children, especially Michelle Stamper and Colette Hall and her Hospice caregivers.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Godbey, whom she married on May 27, 1960 and who died on June 4, 2010, her parents, three brothers, Johnny Mac Chappell, Bobby Chappell and Ronald Chappell and one sister, Ruth Pruitt. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Perry Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Church Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Heritage Hospice of Danville. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
