Mathal Dick Foster, 85, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away October 25, 2013 at Somerwoods Nursing Home. She was born on August 7, 1928 in Bethelridge, Casey County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Arvil and Lola Dick. She was a graduate of Middleburg High School, Lindsey Wilson College and Eastern State College. She married William Robert Foster on May 20,1948 and they continued teaching careers in the Science Hill Schools in 1950. They were blessed with twin girls on September 13, 1951 and made their home in Science Hill. He passed away on February 18, 2011. She began her teaching career at age 19 in various one room schools in Casey County and completed her degree traveling to Richmond on Saturdays and during summers. She completed her teaching career at Science Hill Elementary in 1965 and while there initiated the performing arts program with Ruth Beauty conducting many cantatas and operettas throughout her tenure. She was active in Science Hill Garden Club, having served in many capacities and a founding member of Science Hill Homemakers Club. United Methodist Women was a service she loved and devoted a great deal of her life to. She was a member of Science Hill United Methodist Church for many years and held leadership roles in Sunday School and Children's Events. At her death, she was a member of Somerset First United Methodist Church; a member of Wesley Fellowship and The Glen Gover Sunday School Class. She was associated with Kentucky Education Association and National Education Association throughout her teaching career. She was an avid bowler and golfer with the Eagles Nest Ladies League. She followed her husband's officiating career in various basketball conferences throughout the state as well as the OVC and SEC. She loved traveling to the Kentucky State High School Basketball Tournament and was readily engaged in every game. She is survived by twin daughters, Sherrye & (Bob) Tucker of Somerset and Gerrye Randall of Somerset; a brother, Gerald Dick and a devoted sister-in-law, Wanda Dick. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ryan & (Brandi) Tucker, Monica & (Brandon) Smith, Greg & (Hailey) Randall, and Neal & (Katelynn) Tucker. Six great-grandchildren survive; Kannon Tucker, Bennett Tucker, Bryce Tucker, Asher Smith, Griffin Smith, and Lillian Grace Randall. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Monday, October 28, 2013 at Somerset First United Methodist Church with her family and Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating. Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 PM Monday at Somerset First United Methodist Church. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Somerset First United Methodist Church Youth or Somerset Family Resource Center. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
