Delmos Sumner, 89, of Heaton Ford Road in Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born in Vicco, Kentucky on August 15, 1918, son of the late John S. and Sally Sumner. He was a farmer and a retired employee of Somerset Community College. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Haddix Sumner, whom he married on December 22, 1946, two sons, Glenn & (Eva Sue) Sumner and Mike & (Peggy Joyce) Sumner, both of Science Hill, one daughter, Betty Sue & (Chuck) Dunz of Burnside, two brothers, Lawrence & (Gevetta) Sumner of Vicco, KY and Lauzy & (Cleda) Sumner of La Follette, TN, two sisters, Betty Mae Combs of Ohio and Mary Jo Sumner of Vicco, KY, ten grandchildren, Glenn & (Dawn) Sumner Jr., D.B. & (Heather) Sumner, Paul Sumner, Lee Ann Sumner, Sherry & (Doug) Stogsdill, Scott Sumner, Felicia Sumner, Rose Hutchison, Otis & (Sue Ann) Hutchison and Fred Hutchison, sixteen great-grandchildren, Logan Sumner, Ivory Sumner, Thomas Wesley, Anquisha Loveless, Curt Loveless, Drew Irvin, Timothy Irvin, Peyton Sumner, Whitlee Stogsdill, Secret Stogsdill, Scotty Stogsdill, Destiny Weaver, Jordon Weaver, Mya Barron, Kyndal Sumner and James Paul Sumner and one great-great-grandchild, Haylee Irvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Paul Seified, one daughter, Mary Lou Sumner, who died in infancy, one brother, Leonard Sumner and two sisters, Elmira Moore and Callie Lucus.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gary New and Bro. David Muse officiating.
Burial will be in Sumner Family Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
