Hattie Vie Burton Skaggs, 92, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014.
She was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on October 31, 1921, daughter of the late John M. and Lula B. McCutchin Burton. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Gary & (Dolores) Skaggs of Lexington, KY, three daughters, Charlotte & (Arthur) Short of Georgetown, KY, Sadie & (Denton) Barron and Rita & (Eddie) Phelps, both of Somerset, daughter-in-law, Nina Skaggs of Somerset, two sisters, Josie Prows of Somerset and Grace Poynter of Greencastle, IN, thirteen grandchildren, Richard, Harold and Harley Skaggs, Karen Short Borders, Scott Short, David, Brenda and Randy Barron, Justin Ramsey, Jennifer Todd, Jill Luckett, Ryan Gayheart and Tabatha Crabtree, twenty two great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. "Crit" Skaggs, whom she married on December 25, 1937 in Jamestown, KY and who died on June 29, 2006, her parents, two sons, Everett G. Skaggs and Jerry L. Skaggs, three grandchildren, Kathy J. Barron, Mark A. Ramsey and Joyce A. Smith, three brothers, Loran, Elbert and Junior Burton and one sister, Pearlie Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 25, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Dunbar officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
