Wanda Fern Sparks, 74, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born in Lead Hill, Arkansas on Jan. 23, 1940, daughter of the late Montie and Elsie (McGruew) Akins. She was an owner/manager of the former Shoe Hut, was a member of the Heritage Hope Church of God and attended the New Life Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Garrett E. "Sparky" Sparks, a daughter, Teresa Fern & (Quintin) McGinnis of Science Hill, a brother, Joe Bill Akins of Harlowton, Montana, two grandchildren, Quintin Scott, II & (Brianna) McGinnis of Burnside, and Ariel Marie McGinnis of Science Hill and a great-grandson, Aidan. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and James Akins, and two sisters, Beulah Ruth Thompson and Wiladean Roberts. Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, June 13, 2014 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, with Bro. Doug Walden officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 pm Thursday at the funeral home. The family request donations to the New Life Church of God Building Fund. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
