Venice Lee "Bill" Dykes, 85, of Grundy Road in Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at his residence.
He was born in Dykes, Kentucky on May 26, 1923, son of the late Jessie O. and Gracie Baker Dykes. He was retired from Mead Paper.
He is survived by two sons, Fred & (Linda) Dykes and Doug & (Rosetta) Dykes, both of Somerset, three daughters, Darlene Dykes, Louise & (Marvin) Bullock and Debbie Adair, all of Somerset, one brother, Jewell Dykes of Somerset, six sisters, Geneva Dykes, Helen Flynn, Flonnie Hardwick, Madeline Ping and Clementine Warren, all of Somerset and Fern Vilardo of Cincinnati, OH, nine grandchildren, Joe, Ben, Johnny, Barbara, Betsy, Belinda, Jamie, Jesse and Kelli, nine great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Alene Hyden Dykes, his parents, one daughter, Connie Bray, six brothers, Curt, Cyrus, Ancil, William, Arthur and Commodore Dykes and three sisters, Eva Dykes, Rose Ella Bradley and Betty Goodin.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Chaplain Charles David Hawk officiating.
Burial will be in Goodwater Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Goodwater Cemetery Fund.
