Fred Denver Payne, 87, of Langdon Road in Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Science Hill, Kentucky on March 20, 1921, son of the late William Conley and Ella Mae Farmer Payne. He was retired from General Motors and an employee for Morris & Hislope Funeral Home for 21 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran with the 68th Medical Regimen as an ambulance driver and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Mae Payne, whom he married on August 23, 1946, one son, Ronnie & (Marsha) Payne of Dillsboro, IN, one daughter, Sandra & (Barry) Rath of Cincinnati, OH, five sisters, Ollie Gregg of Liberty, IN, Pearl Crawford and Flossie Long, both of Science Hill, Patsy & (Willard) Johnson of Somerset and Christine & (Ken) Royer of Hamilton, OH, five grandchildren, Rob & (Candace) Payne of Elizabethtown, KY, Rick & (Tracy) Payne and Randy & (Pam) Payne, both of Fairfield, OH, Renee & (Vince) Hall of Springboro, OH and John & (Carrie) Hess of Barboursville, WV, five step grandchildren, Christina & (Eric) Brann of Fairfield, OH, Michelle Gentry of West Chester, OH, Josh & (Christina) Gentry of Memphis, TN, Lisa & (Arlie) Singleton of Foster, KY and Ken & (Susan) Rath of Alexandria, KY, ten great-grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Lee Payne, who died in 1993.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Lucas officiating.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
