Opal Groenenberg, 83, of Pleasant Point School Road in Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at Britthaven Nursing Home. She was born in Waynesburg, Kentucky on February 27, 1925, daughter of the late Mitchell and Ethel Brittain Godby. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Sue & (Michael) Russell of Troy, MO, one brother, Jessie Franklin Godby of Waynesburg, two sisters, Agnes Marie Kidd and Flossie Smith, both of Waynesburg, two grandchildren, Mark Russell of Bellflower, MO and Sherry Brown of Warrenton, MO and one great-grandson, Alex Brown of Warrenton, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nantko Groenenberg, her parents, two brothers, Calvin Godby and Tommy Beecher Godby, four sisters, Versie Broenenberg, Doris Beck, Beatrice Wall and Mamie Helen Cornett and one half sister, Vadie Mae Norris. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 22, 2008 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Zandell Hasty officiating. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
