Rev. Allen Moran

Rev. Allen Moran, 91, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed into the Glory Land of God on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence. Rev. Allen was born in Mason County, Kentucky on December 2, 1922, son of the late Jesse Everett and Julia Peggs Moran. Rev. Moran graduated from Minerva High School in Mason County, Asbury College and completed a Conference Course of Study to be ordained into the Kentucky Annual Conference of the former Methodist Church. On October 16, 1941, Allen was gloriously converted to become a follower of Jesus, along with his sweetheart, Zelma Jean Haley. They were converted at the same alter; same service and at the same time. He later married Zelma on December 7, 1943. To this couple was born one son, Jim, married to Susie New Moran of Science Hill, two daughters, Karen Jean, married to Barry Powell of Richmond, KY and Rachel Anne, married to Greg Williams of Somerset. Allen is also survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Zelma Jean Haley Moran, two grandsons, Jason and Jarrod Powell of Richmond, one granddaughter, Jessica Moran Walker of Crestview, FL, five great-grandsons, Dylan, Luc and Dayne Powell of Richmond, KY and Nicholas and Andrew Walker of Crestview, FL, one great-granddaughter, Tristen Walker of Crestview, FL, four brothers, Stanley, Bill, Tom and Gordon Moran and one sister, Charlotte Moran Kalb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Julia Peggs Moran, one brother, Gene Moran and three sisters, Mary, Ginny and Polly. The couple worked hand in hand and side by side in the dairy farming business in their early years, then called to preach the Gospel, Pastoring and then serving as Conference Evangelist for the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ appointed by the Methodist Church. Allen counted it a great joy to preach the Gospel and tell people about Jesus as Savior and Lord. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, October 24, 2014 at Science Hill United Methodist Church with Bro. David Green and Greg Gover officiating. Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan, the Galilean Children's Home, Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Science Hill United Methodist Church. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
