Ernest Holder, Jr., 90, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center.
He was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on October 30, 1924, son of the late Ernest and Zula Turpin Holder. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and was stationed in Alaska, where he served as a cook. His interests included gardening, cooking and reading. He worked for Ledford and Ellis Wholesale Grocery, Whittenburg Engineering, Ward Engineering and ended his career with his own business called Hilltop Pottery.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Henry Holder, Chelsea Ray & (Clara) Holder and John Warren Holder, all of Somerset, a daughter, Pamela Jane Holder of CA, a brother, Huey & (Elaine) Holder of Somerset, two sisters, Virginia Finkbiner of Indianapolis, IN and Joyce Prather of Manchester, TN, four grandchildren, Craig Holder, Christy Ann Holder Stringer, Debbie Penny and Lucas Penny, three great-grandchildren, Adam Lee & (Kyndal) Stringer, Dylan Andrew Stringer and August Isabella Marie Stringer and one great-great-grandson, Haython Lee Stringer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Fullen Holder, his parents, a daughter, Patricia Holder, a son, David Eugene Holder, a sister, Nellie Culp and a brother, Jack Holder.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Monday, January 12, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Hines officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 10:30 AM at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
