John Childers, 76, of Hilltop Drive in Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in Ringgold, Kentucky on October 6, 1932, son of the late Reggie F. and Mattie Smith Childers. He was a mechanic with the Department of Highways and of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by one son, Michael Childers of Burnside, two daughters, Linda Sellers of Somerset and Karen New of Bronston, one brother, James Childers of Somerset, three sisters, Louise Cooper of Ferguson, Lois Wilson of Science Hill and Sadie Robinson of Tennessee, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae Howell Childers, two brothers, Bill Childers and Samual Childers, who died in infancy, four sisters, Isabelle Stringer, Bessie Shephard, Emma Shephard and Margaret Lewis and one granddaughter, Tanya Sellers.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gilbert Muse officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday at the funeral home.
