Norman Leander Simpson, 72, of Somerset, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born in Grundy, Kentucky on May 31, 1943 son of the late John Franklin and Lillian Estella Turner Simpson. He retired as a ADJ Helicopter Mechanic for the U.S. Navy after 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Starling Simpson; one daughter, Virginia R. Ross of Somerset; three sons, David J. Simpson of Somerset, William W. "Wes" Simpson of Okinawa, Japan, and Ernest A. "Allie" Simpson of Norfolk, VA; three brothers, James Franklin Simpson of Jacksonville, FL, William Denton Simpson of Somerset, and Albert Sherman Simpson of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Nannie Phelps of Somerset, Ellen Mariah Bray of Jacksonville, FL, and Frances Estella Nichols of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Norman L. Simpson, II; and one brother, Ernest Wesley Simpson. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 7, 2015 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Walter Walden officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Simpson Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Norman Simpson will be after 6 PM Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
