Ruth E. Francis Ashley, 86, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center.
She was born in Allen County, Kentucky on August 2, 1929, daughter of the late William Levi and Lois Duncan Francis.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Ashley, whom she was married to for 66 years and who died on December 11, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald & (Helen Beasley), Delmar & (Barthela Watson), James & (Latida Edmonds) and Billie & (Almeda Wilson), a sister, Willodene & (Carl) Medley, son-in-law, Richard Creekmore, sister-in-law, Inez & (Burnice) Wall, brother-in-law, James Barber and a great-grandson, Dalton Kade Ashley.
Ruth is survived by her children, Linda Jo Ashley-Creekmore, Jimmy & (Louise) Ashley, Russell Ashley and David & (Irma) Ashley, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Bernice Barber. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by her loving caregiver, Shirley & (Gary) Wesley and friend and neighbor Nancy Elliott.
She was a member of the Science Hill United Methodist Church. Ruth was a stay at home mom until her children were well into their school years. She was housekeeping supervisor for Holiday Inn for twenty four years. After retirement and many trips to Glasgow, KY to care for her mother, she brought her mom to her home for care. Ruth was also a caregiver at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Randall.
For many years Kenneth and Ruth traveled to Florida to watch spring training, to visit with family and enjoy the beach. For Kenneth and Ruth it was important to spend time together and do the things they loved. Spending time together with family was important. Gatherings were celebrated with great home cooked meals and most often the sharing of stories of family and growing up.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 21, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Pastor David Green officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
