Duke Turpen, 76, of Highway 235 in Nancy, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born at his home in Nancy, Kentucky on June 19, 1932, son of the late Bam and Winnie Simpson Turpen. He lived on the family farm all his life. He was a member and former treasurer of Okalona Missionary Baptist Church in Nancy.
He worked for his father in the Turpen Country Sausage business in Nancy, Kentucky for many years. After business closed he worked as a Federal Meat Inspector in Lexington, Kentucky and as a monument salesman for D & D Monument Company in Somerset, Kentucky.
He was an avid Civil War enthusiast, supporter of the Zollicoffer Park Preservationist and a local community historian.
Mr. Turpen is survived by one sister, Irene Turpen Brown, one niece, Sandra & (Roy) Tarter Chapman, two great nephews, Jason & (Trista) Chapman and Morgan & (Kelly) Chapman, special great-great-nieces and nephews, Hunter, Ramey, Luke and James and a host of cousins, church friends, neighbors and special phone friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Turpen Tarter of Nancy.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Pastor John Zupancic officiating.
Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery in Nancy.
Visitation will be after 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
