William Lee "Bill" Girdler, 66, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born in the Slate Branch community on March 13, 1949, son of the late Carl and Eva Muse Girdler. He retired from the Somerset Fire Department after 22 years of service with the rank of major. He worshipped with his family at New Life Church of God, Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Burton Girdler, whom he married on February 14, 1991, two daughters, Eva Virginia Andis Girdler and Harley Quinn Painter, all of Science Hill, siblings, Eddie Carl Girdler of Science Hill, Hobart Ray & (Bubbles) Girdler and Vicki Lynn Girdler VanHook, both of Somerset, father and mother-in-law, Paul and Sarah Lou Andis Burton of Science Hill and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sue Carol Girdler and Wilma Jean Fox.
He loved his dogs, who brought him much comfort and enjoyment. He loved to travel and was always ready to go. He loved the Lord and was a man of God. Bill was a wonderful husband, father and friend to all who knew him.
Visitation will be after 11 AM Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Rick Haynes and Pastor Jamie Couch officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Life Church of God Building Fund in memory of William "Bill" Girdler.
