Leland David Williams

Leland David Williams, 78, of the Ellison community in Eubank, KY, slipped his earthly bonds and entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.  After a recent illness, Leland underwent surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Facility in Lexington. He was born on September 17, 1937, son of the late David Sherman and Celestia Smith Williams. He was educated in the public elementary and high schools of Lincoln County and Eastern Kentucky University prior to entering military service. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves for an extended number of years and served as the clerk for his unit when on active duty. He was an active farmer of note in central Kentucky, known for his knowledge of cattle and cattle sales. Instrumental in community affairs, he helped organize and maintain the Waynesburg Rescue Squad, working actively in the Squad's duties but also in financial activities to support the Squad's activities. He was a long time member of Pilot Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of  55 years, Judy Kay Singleton Williams and children, Susan Renee & (Kevin) McCreary of Frankfort, David Lee & (Carrie) Williams and Jonathan Clark & (Suzie) Williams, both of Eubank, one sister, Eldred Williams &(James) Melton of Frankfort and brother Olin D. & (Earnestine) Williams of Eubank. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Andrew Williams, Scott Cole, Kaitlyn Williams, Lindsay Carrier, Jordan Williams, and great grandson, Lincoln Witt. Surviving nephews and nieces include James Melton, Sarah Melton Hamilton, Sheryl Banauch, Cindy L. Dwyer, George V. Williams, Jr. and Shay Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Vernon Williams. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gerald Ashley and Bro. Roger Weddle officiating. Burial will be in Pilot Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Cancer Society. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
