Lena May Barnes

September 28, 1909 — April 8, 2009

Lena May (Sims) Barnes, 99, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on September 28, 1909, daughter of the late William Daniel and Effie Caldwell Sims. She was a homemaker and attended Camp Ground Baptist Church. When she could no longer attend services at church, she enjoyed visiting with the church members at her home. She is survived by one brother, Clarence L. Sims of Kings Mt., KY, one sister, Katha Rena Schnitzler of Danville, KY, sister-in-law, Maxine Sims, nephews, Randy and Mona Sims, Jimmy and Juan Sims, Danny Sims, Bobby and Joan Sims, Roger and Faye Schnitzler, Billy and Becky Schnitzler, their families, many cousins and friends. She was very proud of the neighbors and their children who grew up around her and the gratitude and caring they showed her throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Barnes, who died in 1966, her parents, three brothers, Walter, Roy and Lawrence Sims, one sister, Dolly Eastham and four children, who died in infancy. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Friday, April 10, 2009 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Albert McKinney and Bro. Gerald Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg. Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
