Geraldine Poynter Simpson

Geraldine (Poynter) Simpson, 62, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born in Dykes, Kentucky on December 31, 1946, daughter of Christeen (Nolan) Poynter and the late Raymond Poynter. She was an assistant piano player, Sunday school teacher, worked as the youth director for 17 years, was the church clerk for 25 years and a member of Nelson Valley Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, William Denton "Bill" Simpson whom she married on April 17, 1965, one son, Billy and (Jennifer) Simpson of Somerset, KY, two daughters, Tina Lynn and (Toby) Burns of San Antonio, TX and Khristie Ann and (Eddie) Bastin of Somerset, KY, her mother, Christeen (Nolan) Poynter of Somerset, KY, two brothers, Wayne and (Joyce) Poynter of Mt. Victory, KY and Stephen Poynter of Somerset, KY, four sisters, Precilla and (Cecil) Stogsdill of Somerset, KY, Betty and (Gary) Walker of Roachdale, IN, Sarah Lark of Danville, IN and Sue and (Greg) Farmer of Somerset, KY, six grandchildren, Kelli Burns, Justin Bastin, Jared Bastin, Josie Bastin, Tre` Simpson, Trinity Simpson and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Poynter. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday April 28, 2009 at Nelson Valley Baptist Church with Bro. Grant Hardwick and Bro. Kenny Daulton officiating. Burial will be in Simpson Family Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday April 27, 2009 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home and at the church after 1 pm on Tuesday until after funeral services. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or Nelson Valley Baptist Church. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
