Laura Elizabeth "Betty" Smith, 77, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her residence.
She was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on May 4, 1938, daughter of the late Berlin and Della Vaught Thurman. She was a retired cook and house cleaner. Betty was also a member of Union Church of Christ. She loved cooking, family reunions and most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family. She loved her church and had a very strong faith in God.
She is survived by one son, Gene & (Tammy) Smith of Eubank, one daughter, Gail Smith Fix & (Ralph Robinson) of Science Hill, four grandchildren, Misty & (Morgan) Wilson of Eubank, Amanda & (Brandon) Sheffer of Science Hill, Michael & (Autumn) Fix of Atlanta, GA and AJ & (Cierra) Smith of Eubank, seven great-grandchildren, Dylan and Krystin Wilson, Jacob Robinson, Maggie Sheffer, Cameron and Savannah Fix and soon to arrive, Laura Clementine Smith, one brother, Benny & (Wilma) Thurman of Eubank, three sisters, Mary & (Earl) Poynter and Hazel & (Russell) Dick, both of Science Hill and Grace & (Grover) Hougland of Indianapolis, IN, many special nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hubert Smith, two brothers, Bud and Lester Thurman, four sisters, Max White, Francis Hart, Jessie Poynter and Chris Roosa.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ponder officiating.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
