Shirley Fay Chambers Bowman, 65, of the Cabin Hollow community, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born in Lee County, Kentucky on July 20, 1943, daughter of the late Willie Duluth Chambers and Bethel Bernice Vanderpool Chambers. She was married to Arlie Denver Bowman on February 17, 1962 and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1990. Shirley was a member of Pitman Creek Baptist Church. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and later in life was baptized into Pitman Creek Baptist Church. Her family was her life and they will miss her greatly.
She is survived by one daughter, Beth & (John) Gover, one son, Jesse & (Pam) Bowman, both of the Cabin Hollow community and three grandsons, who were the apple of her eyes, Will Gover, Seth Bowman and Shane Bowman. They loved their Ma Maw very much and will miss her. Shirley is also survived by five sisters, Aileen Pence, Jean Tackett, Wanda Coffey and Diane Velde, all of Middletown, OH and Marsha Larison of Seminole, OK and one brother, Gary Chambers of Camden, OH.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Shane Denver Bowman, one sister, Dorothy Cassell, an infant brother, Sammy Joe Chambers and brothers-in-law, David Pence, Jim Tackett and Otis Coffey.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Pitman Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Wilson, Bro. Doug Eggers and Bro. Ernest Warren officiating.
Burial will be in Pitman Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home and after 12 Noon Saturday at the church.
