Mary Kate Surber Grable

Mary Kate Surber Grable, 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of Bristol, Virginia, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016. She was born in Estesburg, Kentucky on December 28, 1926, daughter of the late Roscoe and Rebekah Jane Lowe Surber. She moved to Bristol, Virginia in 1944 and became an employee of Burlington Mills. She married George W. Grable, Jr. on September 5, 1953; one daughter was born to this union. She became a member of The Border City Eastern Star, Chapter 162 in August of 1958. She was a member of the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. She retired from "the mill" and worked at Bristol Products for another 21 years; she was very proud of her 60 years of employment. She is survived by two granddaughters, Rebecca Dolinger of Knoxville, TN and Kate Dolinger of Bristol, VA. Other survivors include one brother, John Alvin Surber of Eubank, three nieces, April Donathon of Springfield, KY, Maryann New and Donna Spencer, both of Eubank, two nephews, Lester Surber and Denver Surber, both of Eubank, three great-nephews, Ricky New, Rodney New and Douglas Surber, all of Kentucky; one great-niece, Colleen Arnett of Michigan and six great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George W. Grable, Jr., her daughter, Kimberly Dolinger, one sister, Margaret Dee Jordan and one brother, Elbert Denton Surber. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Damon Jones officiating. Visitation will be after 12 Noon Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA at 1 PM Thursday, July 21, 2016 with Bro. Howard Leonard officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Kosair Children's Hospital, 234 E. Gray St., Suite 450, Louisville, KY 40202, www.kosairchildrenshospital.com or a Shriners Children's hospital of your choice. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
