Ray Franklin Brittain, 77, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born in the Woodstock community of Kentucky on June 6, 1939, son of the late Earl and Anna Mae Abbott Brittain. He retired from the Kentucky State Police as a Captain and Post Commander of the London State Police Post.
He graduated from Eubank High School, the Kentucky State Police Academy, FBI National Academy and Eastern Kentucky University. He was a member of the Kentucky Public Retirees, serving as Legislative Chairman and he served on the 911 board. He had a love for gospel music and often attended gospel music conventions. He enjoyed playing volleyball with friends and his sons. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Miniard Brittain, one daughter, Pamela & (Paul) Brittain Caulwell, two sons, Keith Earl Brittain and Lanny Ray Brittain, two grandchildren, Brandy Lynnette Caulwell and Summer Cherise Caulwell, three brothers, Cloyd & (Emily) Brittain, Noel & (Mary Lee) Brittain and Neal & (Teresa) Brittain and two sisters, Doris Dykes and Norma & (James) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Laverne Brittain.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Glenn Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim McWhorter, Glenn Dalton, G.A. Tomlinson, Earl Beaty, Ray Adams and Howard Ping. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Speck and the Kentucky State Police.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 9 PM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
