Mae Vanhooser

Mae Vanhooser, 107, widow of Willie Vanhooser, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Somerset. Mae was born on Christmas Day, 1901 in the Polebridge Community of Pulaski County to the late George Louis and Belle Taylor Brown, one of nine children. She was a member of Oak Grove #1 Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening. She was very active until age 97, when after a stroke she moved into the nursing home. She looked forward to receiving cards and letters and especially visitors. She would often say "Now don't stay away to long" when you left. Mae and Willie were married on March 15, 1923 in Somerset. They moved to the Trimble Community where they lived their entire married life of 52 plus years. He died on January 24, 1976. They were parents of five children. The four surviving are Bernice Tarter and Billy & (Regina) Vanhooser of Somerset, Bobby & (Wilma) Vanhooser of Lexington and Virgie & (Gene) Williams of Monticello. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Shirley Molden, Kaye Hudson, Brian Vanhooser, all of Somerset, Glenda Keener, Janet Fisher and Becky Fisher, all of Lexington, Cynthia Resor of Lancaster, Kendra Sutton of Bowling Green, Stephen Williams of Monticello and Dianna Stratton of Shelbyville, fifteen great-grandchildren, David, Dale and Barton Molden, Marlana Stewart, Ian Haddix, Evan Keener, Sara and Waylon Reichert, Sallie Beth and Samantha Mae Sutton, Keegan and Aiden Vanhooser, Brianna and Joshua Stratton and Chloe Williams and ten great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Mark, Matthew, Ryan and Will Molden, Kaya Haddix, Audrey and Lydia Stewart, Breckon Reichert and Sarah Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Kathleen Fisher, son-in-law, Kenneth Tarter, four sisters, Elizabeth Muse, Fannie Hines, Beulah Shepperd, Edna Jones and four brothers, Robert, Wade, Louis and Alex Brown. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Singleton officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 6 PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideon Memorial Bible Plan or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503 Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
