John Harden Dick, 85 of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born on March 10, 1921 in Somerset, a son of the late Dayton Tyler and Alma Easter Godby Dick.
He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and was a truck driver in the service and as a civilian working for the Erie Ordinance Depot where he earned the Safe Driver award 14 times in the service and as a civilian. He retired from Civil Service in 1966, when he took up farming full time. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Oak Harbor, Ohio. He enjoyed driving around taking the "scenic tour" checking on all the neighboring crops.
He is survived by four grandchildren, Troy & (Shannon) Dick of Dallas, Texas, Ty & (Audrey) Dick of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Trenton & (Terry) Dick of Monroe Louisiana and Gina & (Tom) Boals of Oak Harbor, Ohio, nine great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Marci Howard of Shreveport, Louisiana, a brother, Everett & (Pauline) Dick of Somerset, Kentucky, special friends and neighbors, Ada Swan, Rich Tallman and family, Dale Wendt and the Roger Peters family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. Applegate Dick, whom he married on March 9, 1940 in Port Clinton, Ohio and who died on June 27, 2001, his parents, three sons, Darrell, Swight and Howard "Bingo" Dick, four brothers, Carl, Arl, Howard and Ottis Dick and a sister, Edith Wesley.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home in Oak Harbor, Ohio with Rev. Richard Bichelhaupt officiating.
Burial will be in Rusha Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Ohio with military honors by V.F.W. Post #8732.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 PM Friday, June 23, 2006 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Carroll Twp. EMS or to Grace Baptist Church.
