Earl Harold Back, 94, of Eubank, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.
He was born in Knott County, Kentucky on March 30, 1915, son of the late David Harvey and Mary Ann Dixon Back. He was a farmer and a member of Buncombe Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served in the 630th Army Anti-Aircraft during the invasion of North Africa and Italy of World War II. He enjoyed working with wood and designing his own creations.
He is survived by one brother, Coy Eugene Back of Eubank, special sister-in-law, Juanita Back, special niece, Virgie & (Roy) Barnes and special nephews, Barry & (Hilda) Back and Harold & (Ester) Back. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Virginia Back, nieces and nephews, Don Back, Jim Back, Mary Lou Lee, Elaine Hull, Wayne Back, David Back, special great-nieces and nephews, Leah Barnes Ferro, Ruth Back Latoff, Royce Barnes and Richard Barnes, special great-great-nephew, Benjamin Ferro, his church family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers who died in infancy, Emmel and Troy Venton Back, four brothers, Clarence & (Meryl) Back, Elbert & (Irma) Back, Edgar & (Marie) Back and Burl Back, two sisters, Volina May & (John) Culbertson and Virgie & (Bill) Worley and one niece, Mary Ann.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, January 25, 2010 at Buncombe Baptist Church with Bro. Patrick Lawson officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Sunday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home and after 9 AM Monday at the church.
Donations may be made to Buncombe Baptist Church or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
