Mabel Costella Deaton, 80, of Ringgold Road in Somerset, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born in Akron, Ohio on September 29, 1929, daughter of the late Sterley and Zella Woodall Phelps. She was a bookkeeper for Sherwin-Williams and a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mabel loved the outdoors, mountains, the West, hiking, crafts, sewing, painting and was curious to learn more.
She is survived by her husband, George B. Deaton of Somerset, whom she married on April 4, 1953, one daughter, Cheryl & (Charles) Strong of Colorado Springs, CO, one brother, James A. & (Priscilla) Phelps of Wilhoit, AZ, two sisters, Mary M. & (Charles) Goff of Somerset and Janrose Roy of Jeffersonville, IN, two grandchildren, Adam & (Melissa) Strong of Estes Park, CO and Vicky & (Brian) Laird of Monument, CO, four great-grandchildren, Sierra Laird, Tristan Laird, Aspen Laird and Aidan Laird and her precious dog, Petey. She loved her family and her grandbabies, who were the light of her life. She will be greatly missed in the hearts of her family. She is in Heaven dancing in the arms of Jesus.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Don Jones officiating.
Visitation will be after 6 PM Friday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
