Lowell E. Chaney, son of the late Christopher Columbus "Lum" and Maranda "Randie" McCalister Chaney, was born in Somerset, Kentucky on July 13, 1927 and departed this life on July 13, 2006 at the age of 79 years.
He was a retired employee of Jack Smart Ford Dealership in Greenwood, Indiana and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by a son, Ronald & (Melissa) Chaney of Indianapolis, Indiana, two daughters, Dana & (Chuck) Clapp of Somerset and Lana & (Paul) Burton of Eubank, four stepsons, John Sharkey and Mike Sharkey both of Indianapolis and Patrick Sharkey and Tom Sharkey both of Fremont, California, a special stepdaughter, Pam Sharkey of Greenwood, Indiana, four brothers, Earl & (Geneva) Chaney and Glen & (Alisha) Chaney both of Sinking Valley, Kentucky, Bobby & (Geneva) Chaney of Indianapolis and Edward Chaney of Greenwood, Indiana, a sister, Ruby Inabnitt of Greenwood, Indiana, three grandsons, Robert Chaney of Iraq, Charles Clapp, I and Donnie Clapp both of Plainfield, Indiana, four granddaughters, Amy Chaney, Samantha Burton and Tandy Shaffer all of Indianapolis and Christina Windle of Jamestown, Indiana, thirteen great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce Sharkey Chaney, whom he married on September 3, 1976, his parents, a son, Robert Lowell Chaney, four brothers, Burl, Ray, Billy and Paul Chaney and three nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 20, 2006 at McCalister Chaney Cemetery with Bro. Kevin Bullock officiating.
Burial will be in McCalister Chaney Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
