Bernice Elizabeth Kalz

Bernice Elizabeth Kalz, 91, went on to heaven Friday, July 28, 2006. She was born August 16, 1914 in Palmer, Michigan. She taught school and during World War II worked as a quality control inspector on artillery ranging equipment. On June 28, 1943 she married Walter Kalz. The couple lived in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Two sons were born and Bernice became a full-time mother. In the 1970's she became a grandmother, and in the 2000's a great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter and a brother, John (and Annita who survives) Crocker and is survived by her sons, Marty (and Susie) Kalz of Somerset and Phil (and Phyllis) Kalz of Texas, her grandchildren, Sara (and Thomas) Barbour, Becky (and Art) Miller, Katy Kalz, Andrew Kalz and John Kalz, and her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Duncan and Lara Barbour. Bernice brought her children up to know and love Jesus, and loved doing volunteer work for the Lord. She was a church organist for years in Michigan, and after her husband's death did volunteer work at McCurdy Methodist School in New Mexico and Red Bird School in Kentucky. She was a member of the Science Hill United Methodist Church, played the piano for several years at Centerpost United Methodist Church and regularly at area rest homes. Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 2006 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Science Hill United Methodist Church, with a memorial/celebration service at the church on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Negaunee Cemetery in Negaunee, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Science Hill United Methodist Church and labeled UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
