Evaline (Phelps) Childers

June 30, 1918 — December 19, 2006

Evaline Phelps Childers, daughter of the late Wallace and Ellen McKinney Phelps, was born in Somerset, Kentucky on June 30, 1918 and departed this life on December 19, 2006 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Normal, Illinois at the age of 88 years. Evaline and her husband had farmed on Parke Hastings Farm near Yuton, Illinois for 20 years, until October of 1979. She was a cook and janitor at Normal Community High School for 2 1/2 years and at Velvet Freeze in Normal for 15 years. She also served as a volunteer at Fairbury Hospital and Manor Care in Normal. She was a member of Pickett School Club and Cropsey Women's Club and attended Cropsey United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Wayne & (Jeanne) Childers of Kappa, Illinois, Charles Lee Childers of Hudson, Illinois and John W. & (Linda) Childers of El Paso, Illinois, a daughter, Ruth & (David) Childers-Pleines of Arrowsmith, Illinois, twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Childers, whom she married on February 1, 1940 in Weldon, Kentucky and who died on July 26, 1992, her parents, four brothers, two sisters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one niece. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Poff officiating. Burial will be in Bobbitt Cemetery in Somerset. Visitation will be after 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy go to Alzheimer's Association or charity of donor's choice.
