Effie Marie (Bates) Callahan, Lancaster, KY, formerly of Louis Waddle Rd., Science Hill; daughter of the late William and Olga (Placke) Bates, was born on Dec. 23, 1921 in Somerset, KY and died on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Hospital, Danville, KY, at the age of 85 years.
She was a homemaker, a worker for the U.S. Rubber Co. during WWII, in Indianapolis, IN, making wheels for combat airplanes and a member of the McKinney Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen & (her husband, Larry) Burns of Lexington and Judy & (her husband, Ron) Roberts of Berea, KY; three brothers, Johnnie & (Freda) Bates of Riverview, FL; Edward & (Brenda) Bates of Louisville, KY; Robert & (Ina) Bates of Somerset; Six sisters, Leta Bobbitt, Roberta Cundiff, Ola Jasper, Dorothy Gilliam, Marie & (Jack) Sowder and Edna Mae & (Loyd) Compton, all of Somerset; a sister-in-law, Katie Bates of Somerset, four grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Callahan, who died on Aug. 30, 1998; her parents; four brothers, William Bates, Jr., Jeff Bates, Harold Bates and Alton Bates.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, with Bro's. Dave Evans and John Helton, officiating.
Burial will be in the McKinney Cemetery.
