Dora Catchen Ruckel passed away on February 2, 2020 in Ocala, Florida at age 95. Dora was born on July 19, 1924 in Pulaski County, Kentucky and lived in New Castle, IN before moving to Ocala. She was a devoted wife and caregiver to her husband of 65 years, Clyde Ruckel, who preceded her in death in 2013. She was also a hard working and wonderful mother, teacher, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dora was a student at Berea College and received her bachelors and masters degrees from Ball State University in education. After her retirement from teaching, Dora enjoyed shopping, traveling, fishing, reading and spending time with her family. She was a long time member of Cadiz Christian Church in Cadiz, IN.
Dora was also preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Catchen, her infant sister, Edna, her father Ervin Catchen, and step mother Flora Catchen, as well as her sister Ruby Catchen Abbott. She is survived by her children Steve (Elaine) Ruckel of Leesburg, GA, Mike (Joyce) Ruckel of Selma, IN, and Elisa (Joe) Follman of Ocala, FL, along with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Bobbie Atkisson of Lexington, KY, Georgia (Dave) Schermer of Westchester, OH, Don (Missy) Catchen of Park Hill, KY, and Ron (Debbie) Catchen of Mt. Sterling, KY.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, KY. Visitation will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodstock Cemetery.
