Gertrude was born to Wilbur and Doris (Rockwood) Johnson on April 2, 1933 in Lincoln County, Kentucky and passed from this life on Monday, October 28, 2024.
She is preceded by her husband, Janis McAninch, whom she married April 14, 1952; her parents; three brothers, Wilbur Johnson, Jr., Doug Johnson, and David Johnson; and a grandson, Cody Mesaris.
Gertrude was a member of Eubank Church of Christ and taught Sunday School for many years. She retired from Lincoln County Board of Education after 33 years of service. She was called Waynesburg Song Bird when she was young and she always had a song in her heart. Her and Jan raised sweet corn and collie puppies together. She loved her family, friends, and her flowers.
She leaves behind her son, Larry and Janice McAninch of Waynesburg, Kentucky; her daughter, Shelia Mesaris of Waynesburg, Kentucky; a brother, Danny and Lynda Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Shane and Rhonda McAninch of Lincoln, County, Kentucky, Jeremy and Candace McAninch of Lincoln, County, Kentucky, and Jerry and Shelly Martin of Lincoln County, Kentucky, and Rachel and Chris Pivonka of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Jansen, and Gatlin McAninch, Hannah McAninch & (Chris Pendleton), Kaylee McAninch, Caleb & (Jaden Kidd) Martin, Logan and Noah Martin, and Noah and Elijah Pivonka; four Great-great-grandchildren; a special caregiver, Shirley Pike; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Robbins officiating.
Burial will be at Double Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM until time for services.
