Glen E. Whitis, 86, of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at his residence.
He was born on April 14, 1934 in Eubank; son of the late Green & Julia (Evans) Whitis. He was a good basketball player in high school. After graduating, he went to work for the rail road in Ohio, before being drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years. He returned to his hometown where he began working in the maintenance department at General Electric for 35 years, until his retirement 26 years ago. He loved hunting, fishing, and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. He was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church and attended Northside Baptist Church with Delores for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delores (Chaffin) Whitis whom he married on
June 9, 1956; a son, Glen E. & (Michelle) Whitis, Jr.; a daughter, Melody & (Jeff) Phelps; grandchildren, Autumn Ard & (Corey) Pearson, Lauryn Whitis; and a great-grandchild, Ryder James Pearson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mellanie & (Jimmy) Ard; four brothers, Winford Whitis, Marvin Whitis, Russell & (Leona) Whitis, and Ray & (Ruby) Whitis; and two sisters, Doris & (Charles) English and Mary & (Walter) Arthur.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:30 PM Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Owens officiating.
Pallbearers will be Glen E. Whitis, Jr., Jeff Phelps, Corey Pearson, Kevin Stykes, and Austin Gray.
Burial will be in Eden Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 12:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2020 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
