Leila Deaton

February 10, 1932 — April 20, 2025

Leila Mae "Sis" Deaton, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted follower of Christ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loved ones, having obtained the age of 93. She was born on February 10, 1932 to Sherman Pearl Jr. and Lola Marie Hicks, who instilled in her the values of love, faith and family that she carried throughout her life.

Sis was a dedicated homemaker, pouring her heart into creating a warm and loving home for her family. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life - planting flowers, tending to her garden, and sharing the beauty of nature with those she loved. A gifted cook, she delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends, filling her home with the aroma of cherished recipes and the comfort of a friendly conversation.

She was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church in Science Hill, KY where she worshiped, actively volunteered in the church kitchen and found strength in her relationship with Christ. She loved sending out cards to church members each week to uplift them until she could no longer do so. Her love for gospel music was a reflection of her unwavering faith, often filling her home with melodies that would lift her spirit and those around her. Sis also had a passion for shopping, always seeking out little treasures that brought joy to her life and to those she cared for.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Deaton Jr., whom she married on July 14, 1951. Her parents Sherman Pearl Jr. and Lola Marie Hicks; her three brothers, Sherman "Buddy" Hicks, John F. Hicks, Neil Hicks; and her sister Kathryn Acey.

She is survived by her daughter Lynne Deaton; her son William "Bill" Deaton and his wife Tami Deaton; one grandson, Chuck McClure; one granddaughter, Heidi Bowling and her husband Matt Bowling; and her two precious great-grandchildren, Sophia Bowling and Sadie Bowling; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who mourn her passing.

A service will be held to honor and celebrate her life on, Wednesday, April 23, 2025 in the Chapel at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, KY with Bro. Dave Muse officiating.

Friends will be received from 10am until 12pm with the funeral to immediately follow at 12pm.

Pallbearers will be Chuck McClure, Matt Bowling, Bill Wheeler, Josh Wheeler, Bob Ellis, and Charles Ray McClure.

A special thank you to Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all of the wonderful care over the last three years.
