Norman "Pete" Phelps of Somerset, KY, met his Lord and Savior face to face on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
Pete was born in Waynesburg, KY on September 19, 1931, son of the late Fred and Mabel Pitman Phelps. He attended school at Waynesburg School as well as Kentucky School of the Blind in Louisville, KY. Pete never met a stranger and always had a warm smile, a joke or a story for anyone who crossed his path. He loved God's Word and found great pleasure in sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as he served as the pastor of several Kentucky churches, including the Hustonville, KY Church of God. He also worked as a farmer for many years.
Pete is survived by his brother, James Carmack, of Danville, KY; his sister, Ruby Phelps Landis of Richmond, IN; his two nieces, Kathleen Landis & (Duane) Jewell of Grapevine, TX and Jayne Landis of Richmond, IN; two great nieces and a great nephew, Erin Jewell Bergman of Fort Worth, TX, Alyssa Jewell Omdal of Neenah, WI and Mikael Kelsey Jewell of Grapevine, TX; as well as five great great nephews and a great great niece, Cyrus Omdal, Truitt Omdal, Simeon Omdal, Josiah Bergman and Tirzah Bergman.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Juanita Fullilove Phelps, who passed away on January 17, 1985; his daughter Nancy Gail Phelps and son, James R Phelps, who both died as infants; his parents and his brother, Charles Phelps.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 15 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM Tuesday at Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg with Pastor Letcher Napier officiating.
